Elevate Your Projects with the Onduline Double Roofing System: A Comprehensive Guide

Are you an architect, engineer, or contractor considering the adoption of a double roofing system for your projects? The innovation and advantages of double roofing are gaining significant traction in the construction industry. This guide explores the applicability of double roofing and provides a meticulous, step-by-step process for installing the Onduline Double Roof System.

Preparation: Site Inspection and Assessment

Before embarking on the installation, conducting a thorough site inspection and assessment is paramount. Here are the essential steps:

    1. Roof Surface Cleaning: Ensure the existing roof surface is clean and free from debris.
    2. Evaluate Roof Condition and Support Structure: Examine the condition of the roof and its support structure. For steel purlins, check for rust levels. For wooden purlins, assess for termite penetration.
    3. Material Estimation and Preparation: Use the Onduline Roofing Calculator available on the main page to accurately estimate the required products and accessories.

Installation Process: Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Assess Rust and Penetration Levels

    • For steel purlins, check rust levels and apply water-based metal roof paint.
    • For wooden purlins, use termite control pesticides.

Step 2: Measure Slope and Inspect Purlin Spacing

    • Install main support battens vertically at 800 cm spacing using tekscrews.
    • Screw vertical framings to existing purlins.
    • Apply horizontal battens based on the roof slope: 240 mm for slopes below 10 degrees, 450 mm for slopes between 10-15 degrees, and 450 mm for slopes above 15 degrees.

Step 3: Lay Sheets and Fix Battens

    • Lay sheets on the fixed battens, starting from the opposite end of the prevailing winds.
    • Apply a 1 corrugation side lap with a 20 cm end overlap and a minimum of 1 corrugation side overlap.

Step 4: Use Onduline Screws

    • Always use Onduline Screws.
    • Drill screws through the top of the corrugation, aligning with the center of purlins.
    • Follow specific screw placement guidelines:
      • Minimum of 14 screws per sheet
      • 5 screws at each corrugation at the end lap
      • 3 screws at the first intermediate purlin of the sheet
      • 3 screws at the second intermediate purlin of the sheet
      • 3 screws at the third intermediate purlin of the sheet

Step 5: Ensure Waterproof Quality

    • Adhere to overlapping rules to ensure long-term waterproofing.

Step 6: Fix the Ridge

    • Start fixing the Onduline ridge cap from the opposite end of the prevailing winds.
    • Fasten the ridge at each corrugation of the overlapped sheet.
    • Maintain a minimum overlap of 22 cm between ridges.
